Welcome
Welcome
to our Corpus Christi Parish website! In the Spring of 2005 Bishop
Malone challenged the Catholics in Maine to Tell the Story of Jesus
Anew. The priests and laity of the parishes in the greater Waterville
area gathered in prayer and reflection for over a year to discern
how best to serve the needs of Catholics in these communities. Guided
by the Holy Spirit, we came to understand that we were called to
form a single community of faith that worshipped in many locations.
On July 1,2007 Bishop Malone suppressed the former parishes of St
Bridget’s in Vassalboro, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Fairfield,
St. John in Winslow, Parish of the Holy Spirit in Waterville, and
St. Theresa’s in Oakland and created Corpus Christi Parish.
We are a parish of over five thousand families. Our new name reflects
our belief that we are strengthened by the Eucharist
to go forth as the Mystical Body of Christ to continue the works
of Christ. Our parish proudly sponsors St John Regional Catholic
School and offers faith formation for children in four locations
during the week. We are actively feeding the hungry through our
soup kitchens and food pantries in several towns. We also hold a
parish picnic, golf tournament, a couple of dances, and other events
to help build community in our vast parish. Many things have changed
since Jean- Baptiste and Sarah Mathieu had the first mass in the
area said in their Water Street home in 1841, but our commitment
to the Catholic faith has not changed; it remains strong. Whether
you live here or are visiting, we invite you to worship with us,
participate in our activities, and join with us in proclaiming God’s
goodness for the next generation.
