Sacraments
The
sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ
and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to
us.
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1131)
A Sacrament
is a sign, given to the church by Christ that transmits God’s
grace to the faithful. Our seven Sacraments are signs that actually
convey God's grace. Through them God gives us the graces necessary
to live a truly human life. Each of the Sacraments has their origin
in Christ’s ministry.
The purpose
of the Sacraments is to sanctify us, to build up the Body of Christ
and to give worship to God. They are opportunities for us to make
Christ present in our everyday lives in a very special way. When
we meet Christ in one of the Church's sacraments we grow in our
faith and our relationship with God. The liturgical and devotional
life of Corpus Christi Parish revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice
and the sacraments.
The seven Sacraments
of the Catholic Church are:
Sacraments of
Initiation that initiate the faithful into God’s life:
- Baptism
- Confirmation
- Eucharist
Sacraments of
Healing that provide healing and reconciliation for the faithful:
- Reconciliation
- Anointing
of the Sick
Sacraments at
the Service of Communion that identify the roles that the faithful
can take in service to God’s community:
