History Before 1913, Mass in Belgrade was offered at the camp of John L. McCormack, then at the Belgrade Hotel by Fr. John Kealy of Sacred Heart Parish in Waterville, and by visiting priests.
The increasing number of people coming to the region for the summer demanded better provision for the spiritual welfare of the Catholics. Since Sacred Heart Parish had the responsibility of Belgrade Lakes, Fr. Kealy obtained permission for land to be bought for a chapel.
In the spring of 1927, the responsibility for St. Helena's was reassigned to St. Bridget's Church in North Vassalboro.
St. Helena's became attached to St. Theresa when Oakland was given a resident pastor in 1961. The pastors of St. Theresa continued to serve St. Helena's until the formation of Corpus Christi Parish with the summertime help of the college chaplains assigned to the area and retired priests who summered in the Belgrade area.
The basic interior and exterior of St. Helena's has changed little through the years as parishioners seem to have prefered to have it remain rustic.
